How do I change the room new players start in? I'd like to use a room of my own creation.

Also, why do i get an error message that says something like "expected a number" then "error occured at line 50" when i try to edit one of the ARE files that came with smog using the area editor?

There is a bug in that version, introduced when trying to fix another bug. :)

If you download the previous version, this problem goes away. Then when reloading files saved with the earlier version (1.30) version 1.31 will read them OK.

The earlier version is at Area Editor version 1.30

As for the starting room, see SMAUG FAQ
